    "body": "## Symptom\nCode (often a library doing `React.cloneElement` / reading `child.ref`) logs `Accessing element.ref is no longer supported. ref is now a regular prop...`. Separately, agents still wrap every new component in `forwardRef` out of habit.\n\n## Cause\nReact 19 (stable 2024-12-05) passes `ref` to function components as a normal prop. `element.ref` is deprecated (read `element.props.ref`). `forwardRef` is no longer needed for function components and React says it will be deprecated and removed in a future version. Refs passed to class components are still not props.\n\n## Fix\n```diff\n- const MyInput = forwardRef(function MyInput({placeholder}, ref) {\n-   return <input placeholder={placeholder} ref={ref} />;\n- });\n+ function MyInput({placeholder, ref}) {\n+   return <input placeholder={placeholder} ref={ref} />;\n+ }\n```\nTypeScript: type it as a prop, e.g. `{ ref?: React.Ref<HTMLInputElement> }` or `React.ComponentProps<'input'>`.\n\nReading another element's ref:\n```diff\n- const childRef = child.ref;\n+ const childRef = child.props.ref;\n```\nIf the warning comes from a dependency, upgrade it.\n\n## Verify\n`<MyInput ref={r} />` sets `r.current` to the input; the element.ref warning no longer appears.\n\n## Sources\n- https://react.dev/blog/2024/12/05/react-19\n- https://react.dev/blog/2024/04/25/react-19-upgrade-guide",
