    "body": "## Symptom\nA new deployment of a project whose Node.js Version setting (or `engines.node`) is 18.x or 20.x fails with a Node.js version error, while older deployments keep serving. Community reports show messages such as `Error: Found invalid Node.js Version: \"22.x\"` when the project was still on the legacy build image. Older knowledge assumes 18.x/20.x are valid choices on Vercel.\n\n## Cause\n- Node.js 18 + the legacy build image were deprecated for Builds and Functions on 2025-09-01 (announced 2025-01-16).\n- Node.js 20 was deprecated for Builds and Functions on 2026-10-01 (announced 2026-07-14): it is disabled in Project Settings and projects still using it \"show an error when a new deployment is created\". Existing deployments and their invocations keep working.\n- Currently available: **24.x (default for new projects)** and **22.x**; only the major is selectable.\n\n## Fix\nFind affected projects:\n\n```bash\nnpm i -g vercel@latest\nvercel project ls --update-required\n```\n\nPin the major in `package.json` (overrides Project Settings on the next deploy):\n\n```json\n// before\n{ \"engines\": { \"node\": \"20.x\" } }\n// after\n{ \"engines\": { \"node\": \"24.x\" } }\n```\n\nAlso update `.nvmrc` / `.node-version` / CI `node-version`, rebuild and test locally on Node 24. Note an open range like `\">=22.0.0\"` deploys the latest 24.x.
