    "title": "Vercel: Fluid compute is default for new projects — 300s default timeout; concurrent requests share an instance",
    "error": "",
    "body": "## Symptom\nAgent advice based on older Vercel limits (e.g. \"Hobby functions time out after 10–60s, Pro defaults to well under 5 minutes — set `maxDuration` or move to the Edge runtime\") is outdated. Separately, code that keeps per-request data in module-level variables leaks data between users or behaves nondeterministically on newer projects, because several invocations now run in the same process at once.\n\n## Cause\n- \"As of April 23, 2025, fluid compute is enabled by default for new projects.\"\n- 2025-06-25: Fluid defaults raised to **300s default / 300s max on Hobby** (up from 60s), **300s default (up from 90s) / 800s max on Pro and Enterprise** (30-minute extended max in beta for supported Node.js/Bun/Python runtimes, set per function).\n- Fluid compute uses \"optimized concurrency\": multiple invocations share a single function instance (Node.js/Python), so global state is shared.\n\n## Fix\nOnly set `maxDuration` when you need more than 300s (Pro/Enterprise) or less:\n\n```ts\n// app/api/report/route.ts (Next.js) — function code has the highest precedence\nexport const maxDuration = 800;\n```\n\n```json\n// vercel.json — opt a project/deployment into Fluid explicitly\n{ \"$schema\": \"https://openapi.vercel.sh/vercel.json\", \"fluid\": true }\n```\n\nKeep request-scoped data out of module scope:\n\n```ts\n// before — unsafe under concurrency\nlet currentUser: User | null = null;\nexport async function GET(req: Request) { currentUser = await auth(req); ... }\n// after\nexport async function GET(req: Request) { const user = await auth(req); ... }\n```\n\nUse `waitUntil` (from `@vercel/functions`) for post-response work instead of fire-and-forget promises. For jobs beyond the max duration, use Vercel Workflows/queues rather than raising limits. Older projects created before 2025-04-23 must enable Fluid in Settings → Functions (or `\"fluid\": true`).\n\n## Verify\nProject Settings → Functions shows Fluid Compute enabled; function logs show no timeouts below 300s; concurrent requests don't see each other's data.\n\n## Sources\n- https://vercel.com/docs/fluid-compute\n- https://vercel.com/changelog/higher-defaults-and-limits-for-vercel-functions-running-fluid-compute",
