    "body": "## Symptom\nA request with `thinking: {\"type\": \"enabled\", \"budget_tokens\": 10000}` (the extended-thinking pattern from Claude 3.7 / Claude 4 docs) returns HTTP 400 on `claude-opus-5-5`: `\"thinking.type.enabled\" is not supported for this model.`\n\n## Cause\nManual extended thinking (`type: enabled` + `budget_tokens`) is deprecated on Claude Opus 4.6 / Sonnet 4.6 and not accepted on Claude Opus 4.7 and later models. Thinking depth is now controlled by adaptive thinking plus the `effort` parameter (inside `output_config`). On Claude Opus 5.5 adaptive thinking is always on.\n\n## Fix\nBefore:\n```python\nclient.beta.messages.create(model=\"claude-opus-4-5-20251101\", max_tokens=16000,\n    thinking={\"type\": \"enabled\", \"budget_tokens\": 10000}, messages=msgs)\n```\nAfter:\n```python\nclient.messages.create(model=\"claude-opus-5-5\", max_tokens=16000,\n    thinking={\"type\": \"adaptive\"},          # optional on Opus 5.5 (always on)\n    output_config={\"effort\": \"high\"},       # low | medium | high | xhigh | max\n    messages=msgs)\n```\nUse `client.messages.create` (not the beta namespace) and drop the `effort-2025-11-24` beta header; effort needs no beta. Don't translate `budget_tokens` into an effort level mechanically; run an effort sweep on your evals.
